GITEX Shopper: Out With The Old, In With The New!

GITEX Shopper 2018 has witnessed a consumer electronics sales splurge during its opening two days as UAE residents and visitors flock to unload a treasure chest of unbeatable, unbelievable offers, discounts, bargain bundles and prizes at the region’s largest consumer electronics shopping spectacular.

The newly-consolidated annual show, running at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) through 11pm on Saturday 6 October, underlined its retail powerhouse standing as crowds descended on Za’abeel Halls 4-6 to grab the latest smartphones, smart TVs, laptops, home electronics, gaming consoles, wearable technology and cameras – to name a few – at prices unavailable anywhere else.

With exclusive limited offers and bumper flash sales on 35,000 products, the UAE public are making a beeline for the show after work, leaving leading retailers to report hot sales across major international and new-to-the-region technology brands.

“GITEX Shopper is the biggest consumer electronics event in the GCC and we’re seeing why,” said Narayan Agarwal, CFO of retail chain EMAX. “This is one place we can connect to customers and see what other retailers are doing. GITEX Shopper connects customers with retailers and brings all the brands under one roof. As a retailer we want to offer exclusive value to GITEX Shopper customer because this is the one platform where customers expect the best deals they can get – and EMAX is delivering.”

The very first to enter GITEX Shopper 2018 was British Dubai resident, Joe Lee: “This is my first visit to GITEX Shopper. I’ve heard it’s the best place for tech bargains. I’m here to upgrade my Samsung watch and I’ve promised myself I’ll pick up a 4K TV. I’m considering a [Sony] PS4, too. It’s cool to see MG cars here and I spotted the massage section which I’m taking advantage of after a look around.”

Ranzel Barretto, a Dubai resident originally from India, added: “I have been coming to GITEX Shopper for many years and always buy something. I usually buy laptops, but this year I’ve bought a phone. I went for a Samsung S9 plus, which I got for a really good deal. My favourite thing about GITEX Shopper is the flash sales, I love them. I research a lot online for electronic products that I plan to purchase, but if there is a product which I don’t have knowledge about, then it’s great to have these guys on hand.”

The Price is Right

As attentions begin to turn to the weekend, GITEX Shopper organisers DWTC are amplifying dozens of competitions to further incentivise crowds. There are tonnes of opportunities to win big prizes, with each visitor entered in for a chance at a brand-new car – the MG ZS Compact SUV – just for buying an entry ticket.

With hourly ‘Shop & Win’ draws for GITEX Shopper visitors to win their on-show purchase values back in cash, and the ‘Visit & Win’ draws awarding a host of other prizes that include Nikon Coolpix B500 cameras, AED1,000 Dell vouchers, Honor 8X smartphones and Microsoft Xbox One S TTBs. Visitors can also get up on stage to win daily holiday package giveaways to a variety of international destinations including Georgia, Azerbaijan and India at the daily GITEX Shopper 2018 ‘Price is Right’ contest.

“The excitement and drama in a winner takes all raffle, let alone the level of prize value afforded to the winner, is exactly the type of unique value proposition which keeps bringing crowds to GITEX Shopper year after year,” said Avinash Shanbhogue, Portfolio Director of GITEX Shopper.

Virgin Radio will also name the winner of its fortnight-long, on air ‘Ultimate Smart Home’ GITEX Shopper competition on Thursday 4 October. Having added a different smart gadget to its Ultimate Smart Home line-up for the past two weeks, the technology fest is now worth AED 40,000. Over 50 finalists have already won keys to the home but only one key opens the door to prizes including a Smart TV, iPhone XS, Arlo Q, Ecobee Smart Thermostat, Macbook Air, Playstation 4 Pro and more.

“It’s so great to be back again with Virgin Radio 104.4 broadcasting my show from GITEX Shopper this year. Of all the years we’ve been here, our ‘Ultimate Smart Home’ promotion is definitely the biggest – giving listeners a chance to win themselves AED 40,000 worth of smart tech. Plus, with all these exclusive tech deals, everyone goes home a winner,” said Virgin Radio presenter, Brent Black.

And There’s More…

GITEX Shopper’s brand-new ‘Xperience Zone’ is also pulling in the crowds. Visitors can sign up for free one-on-one technology ‘tips and tricks’ sessions with ‘techsperts’ from Tech Radar, learn to safely pilot a drone or wage an esports battle in the all-new Shopper Games zone. There’s even a chance to get a massage for visitors overwhelmed by the sheer variety of offers.

Another brand-new feature is the Trade-In Zone, where old laptops, smartphones, tablets, smart watches, iPod or MP3 players are valued by specialists who then convert that sum into vouchers to spend at GITEX Shopper 2018.

GITEX Shopper 2018 is open daily from 11am – 11pm. Tickets are priced at AED 20, a reduction on last year. Students enter for AED 10. Entry is free for children under five. Creating more convenience for visitors, GITEX Shopper 2018 is offering six hours of free parking at DWTC to those who spend more than AED300 at the show.
