UAE Set To Host 2nd Preparatory Conference On The Establishment Of World Green Economy Organization

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to host the 2nd Preparatory Conference on the Establishment of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) on May 5, 2019 at Meydan Hotel in Dubai, under the patronage and presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE). The conference will be attended by senior government officials from the UAE, representatives from several countries, international agencies, and leading private sector companies to support the efforts to create a global multi-sectoral platform that drives green economy and sustainable development.

The 2nd Preparatory Conference seeks to promote public-private partnerships. For the first time, it will witness the participation of major international companies and institutions under the umbrella of the private sector platform of WGEO to discuss feasible and bankable projects for private sector engagement in promoting the transition towards a green economy.

The conference aims to achieve a new milestone in ratifying and adopting the final version of the “Agreement on the Establishment of the World Green Economy Organization’ and signing it to prepare for the establishment conference  that will be organized later this year. This will constitute an important achievement and a roadmap to promote public-private partnerships to promote the green economy and sustainable development paths around the world.

During the conference, WGEO will highlight the importance of collaboration between members of the international community to address pressing issues related to climate change and support a sustainable green future.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the World Green Economy Organization in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in October 2016 at the World Green Economy Summit in Dubai to promote the transition to the green economy, enhance green economy projects globally and support countries and organizations seeking to achieve their green strategies and plans. The UAE has pioneered and succeeded in achieving major global initiatives in the field of green economy and sustainable development in accordance with best practices and international standards,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of WGEO.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable development of a sustainable green economy around the world, and we commend the support of countries and international organizations that value the urgency to drive economic growth and prosperity based on a sustainable and holistic approach that include environmental, social and economic aspects. We look forward to reach another milestone in the upcoming conference which will be key for many green development initiatives to start rolling out across the region and the world.” Al Tayer added.
