The 10th Emirates Airline Festival Of Literature Begins Today

The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature began its 10th anniversary celebrations today with a spectacular opening event at The Cultural & Scientific Association, Al Mamzar. The ceremony featured multi-cultural performers honouring the history of the Festival and its home, Dubai, with recitals by Festival 2018 authors, shadow-dancers, pearl diver aerialists and traditional Emirati sea-faring singers, bringing to life the many facets of the Festival’s programme. The event also marked the official launch of the Festival’s commemorative 10th anniversary book, For the Love of Words.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance, delivered the opening address followed by a welcome by Isobel Abulhoul, OBE, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation and Director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. Among the audience of authors and Festival supporters were dignitaries,His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Emirates Literature Foundation,Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, Centre, HE Mohammed Al Murr, Emirates Literature Foundation Trustee and Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library FoundationChairman, Boutros Boutros, Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing & Brand for Emirates, His Excellency Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and Professor Rafia Obaid Ghubash, Founder of the Women’s Museum and Sukoon and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation.
