Star Wars legend Temuera Morrison Joins Celebrity Line-Up At Middle East Film & Comic Con 2024

Middle East Film & Comic Con, the region’s largest pop culture festival, has announced the next celebrity guest in its star-studded lineup for 2024. The event, which will be held from 9 – 11 February 2024 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), will welcome Temuera Morrison, the man behind the iconic Star Wars character Boba Fett.

This intergalactic star is the only actor to portray both Boba and Jango Fett in the Star Wars franchise. Apart from this, Temuera has made several DC appearances, having played Tom Curry in Aquaman, and in the upcoming Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, in addition to playing Abin Sur in Green Lantern. Because of his extensive body of work, Temuera has been recognised as a cultural icon in New Zealand and a source of pride for the Māori community.

He is the second celebrity guest to be announced for the 2024 edition, joining Troy Baker, the American voice actor and musician, best known for his role as Joel in The Last of Us.

Mark Brooks, Carlo Pagulayan join comic artist line-up

Comic creators Mark Brooks and Carlo Pagulayan have also been confirmed for the 2024 line-up, following the earlier announcement of Filipino artist Stephen Segovia.

Mark Brooks is the Inkpot Award-winning American comic illustrator, painter, and designer known for his acclaimed cover artwork on titles such as X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Avengers as well as interior work on Marvel Comics’ Star Wars Han Solo for which he was nominated for an Eisner Award. He is currently the cover artist for Immortal X-Men, which won Dragon Con’s Dragon Award for best comic book of 2022.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Carlo Pagulayan is a freelance artist that landed his first professional gig drawing Elektra for Marvel Comics, which was followed by successful work on Emma Frost, Fantastic Four and most notably Planet Hulk with writer Greg Pak. The latter served as inspiration for the 2017 hit movie, Thor: Ragnarök, which also debuted the first appearance of Korg and Mike in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, two characters Carlo co-created with Greg. He was also responsible for designing the look of Skaar, son of Hulk.

Japanese Village at MEFCC

Bringing a taste of Japan to Abu Dhabi, the Japanese Village will be an all-new feature launching at MEFCC for 2024. Introduced by popular demand, the Village will bring Japanese culture, tradition, art, animation and gaming to life in Abu Dhabi. Japanese content sits at the heart of fans at MEFCC, and over the years, the demand for nostalgic content such as Grendizer, Captain Tsubasa and Doraemon has only increased along with newer generations who grew up with Goku, Luffy and Naruto.

This feature will bring a taste of Japan to Abu Dhabi in its most authentic form, with traditional experiences from Yukata tryouts, Japanese Tea Ceremonies, Origami and Calligraphy classes to various snacks and anime merchandise that come all the way from the Land of the Rising Sun.
