School Graduates Require Access To Better Quality University Curriculum

 Continued quality education is an integral element to the success of young jobseekers, a debate at the sixth annual Global Education & Skills Forum (GESF) found.

Dr Arturo Condo, President of EARTH University, chaired the heated debate titled ‘Is a university degree the worst investment a young person can make?’, with Mr Jan-cayo Fiebeg, Venture Partner of 3B Ventures and Co-Founder of CodersTrust, and Mr Zaid Rahman, CEO and Founder of Volley.com arguing for; whilst Mrs Maysa Jalbout, CEO of Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education, and Professor Soulaymane Kachani, Vice Provost at Columbia University were against the motion.

Mr Fiebeg led the debate stating that of the 1.5 million engineers graduating from universities in India, 80 percent of those are unemployable, making a university certificate something for parents to cherish and for social media to admire – however deeming it unnecessary and often a hindrance to youths gaining real-world experience until they’re into their twenties.

Mrs Jalbout rebutted stating that those with a bachelor degree earn 84 percent more in their lifetime, than someone who without one; making a degree essential, not for getting a foot in the door, but for laying the foundations for a positive trajectory to sustained success and long-term income generation.

Not having a university degree of his own, Mr Rahman highlighted that he has founded a successful business without a degree, stating that: “Most universities fail to return the quality of education they’re promising,” and are therefore not required.
