Internationally Acclaimed Interior Designer, Leyla Uluhanli To Unveil “”Harmony” Inspired Bespoke Furniture At Downtown Design – November 13th -16th 2018

Prominent international designer Leyla Uluhanli will be launching her latest furniture collection at Downtown Design exhibition during Dubai Design Week 2018, from 13th – 16th November 2018. Paying homage to mid-century American interiors, Leyla Uluhanli Interiors Studio will be debuting nine bespoke pieces that are defined by the unifying theme of ‘harmony’, a perfect balance between traditional and modern, local and international, homogenous and eclectic. Leyla Uluhanli was inspired by the idea that no style or trend is in itself a perfect solution for each and every interior thus, the pieces offers a fluidity of design that facilitates the creation of complex environments; not adhering to a single stylistic doctrine yet constituting a very uniform atmosphere. This not only marks the entry of Leyla Uluhanli Interiors Studio into the Middle East, but is also a milestone celebration with the Middle Eastern launch of “Mosques: Splendors of Islam”, the authoritative book on mosques and Islamic design that has been authored by Leyla Uluhanli.

“It is no mere coincidence that we chose to present our latest collection here, in the United Arab Emirates. The country, its beautiful culture, unprecedented harmony between contemporary practices and historic legacy rings very true to my own personal aesthetic of reimagining the elegance of classical interiors, in a more modern and reserved way. Launching our brand here, in the very heart of the Middle East, is an opportunity to share my vision of the modern home, with the most discerning and tasteful audience in the world. I am honored to be able to present my new collection here in Dubai”, said Leyla Uluhanli, Founder and Creative Director of Leyla Uluhanli Interiors.

Since establishing Leyla Uluhanli Interiors Studio in 2005, Leyla Uluhanli has made significant contributions to interior design and is recognized as a prominent taste maker – A strict advocate of only using bespoke items in her interiors, her furniture is created from natural materials including fine wood, bronze and antique brass, galiusha shark-leather, semi-precious stones and exotic selenite. All the pieces are constructed using complex traditional methods in Italy and Portugal, with some intricate elements being produced by Russian craftsmen.

Combining the reserved retro aesthetics of signature mid-century American interiors with exquisite refined materials, the new items to be showcased by Leyla Uluhanli Interiors Studio offer a lesson in reinventing classical interiors into modern and contemporary forms.

Bar cabinet

An elegant bar cabinet of lacquered dark walnut with almost Mondrian-like façade of decorative stucco, alcantara and brass details. Combining style and function in a compact yet spacious form, this cabinet is a perfect centerpiece for elegant home offices, living rooms or high-end lobbies.

Credenza

This stone-top credenza remains inconceivably light in spirit and style thanks to simple geometric argyle-like patterns of brass, lacquer, maple veneer and alcantara, creating a feeling of three-dimensionality, movement, and texture. Its low-slung profile makes it a functional supportive piece for both decorative and practical uses.

Marble table

The use of natural polished marble for the top of the 3-part coffee table composition is the only decorative detail this piece contains. The simple shape of the tables and its monumental stone quality is balanced by the sleek walnut legs and precise brass edging of the table top.

Couch

The laconic beauty of this off-white arched couch is further underlined by the use of exquisite Pierre Frey fabrics and well-rounded contours of every detail in the piece. Balancing its visual lightness, the brass detailing in the foundation helps to better adapt it to more classic interiors.

Armchair

The almost-futuristic, in comparison to the other pieces in the collection armchair is vaguely reminiscent of the stylish and forward-looking interiors on the brink of the space era. The heavy-looking brass swivel foundation of the chair is balanced by the rounded cutout in the back and the use of the tailor-made fashion-inspired Kravet Collections Calvin Klein silk for the upholstery.

Brass Vase

This goblet-shaped vase is in a way a perfect reflection of the very idea of the collection, unifying the reserved and refined modern aesthetic with exquisite luxury of classic materials and traditional techniques. Beautiful in its iridescent shine when carefully polished or boasting a rich-looking patina when left to the elements, this powerful brass decorative piece creates an almost nostalgic quality for every interior.

In addition to entirely new pieces, the designer would also show a couple of items from the previous collection to further underscore her journey as a designer.

Porter armchair (first unveiled in 2015)

Porter armchair is the perfect embodiment of the comfortable functionality typical for the 1960s – the period that has made a huge impact on the entire collection. The smooth black lacquered details with antique brass decorative elements in combination with soft yet durable textile make it a prefect centerpiece for tranquil living interiors as well as composed commercial spaces.

Commode with selenite façade (first unveiled in 2016)

This refined commode decorated with selenite slabs presents a powerful piece for both modern and classic interiors. First made as a bespoke item for a private interior commission, it has made its way to the new collection thanks to its precise geometry softened by the almost translucent façade décor. Produced from high-gloss timber with brass and selenite details.
