EmiratesGBC Opens Entries For 10th Annual MENA Green Building Awards 2021

EmiratesGBC, an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, has opened submissions for its 10th Annual MENA Green Building Awards, which will be held in November 2021. The initiative recognises the innovative and continuous efforts of public and private organisations in the MENA region to promote built environment sustainability.

His Excellency Ali Al Jassim, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “The Annual MENA Green Building Awards is the flagship recognition in the region for best practices in promoting sustainable built environments. Over the past ten years, we have honoured a distinguished alumni of bright innovators, who have helped transform the region’s building sector through their singular focus on sustainable initiatives. They have inspired many others to embrace a culture of green buildings. Together, we are contributing to achieving the green vison of the region, especially as governments focus on decarbonisation and achieving the global goal of net zero buildings by 2050.”

The Annual MENA Green Building Awards are presented in 17 categories: Net Zero Building Project of the Year, Green Building Project of the Year, Sustainable Design Project of the Year, Healthy Spaces Project of the Year, Facility Management Organisation of the Year, Developer of the Year, Green Contractor of the Year, Green Consultant of the Year, Green SME of the year, Green Building Product of the Year – Indoor Air Quality, Green Building Product of the Year – Energy Management, Green Building Product of the Year – Water Management, Green Building Material of the Year – Construction Material, Green Building Research Award, Training Initiative of the Year, Retrofit Project of the Year, Best Operations & Maintenance (Existing Building). To support a fair and transparent process of determining the short-listed and winning organisations, the Awards will be audited by a third party Auditor. Further, to encourage academia engagement, the Dr. Owainati Student Excellence Award sponsored by Dr. Sadek Owainati, the Co-Founder of EmiratesGBC, is presented to one exceptional student who showcases outstanding work in sustainability.

The event is endorsed by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). The official partners are Egypt Green Building Council (EgyptGBC), Kuwait Green Building Council (KuwaitGBC), Jordan Green Building Council (JordanGBC), Lebanon Green Building Council (LebanonGBC), Morocco Green Building Council (MoroccoGBC) and Palestine Green Building Council (Palestine GBC), in addition to Bahrain Green Building Council (BhGBC) and Qatar Green Building Council (QatarGBC) joining in this year.

Submissions for the various categories are now open and close on August 19, 2021. This year, the application process has been further simplified to encourage more entries. EmiratesGBC is also offering Platinum, Gold, Silver and other sponsorship opportunities to various organisations that wish to collaborate for MENA Green Building Awards.
