Bestselling Author Laura Barnett In Conversation At Emirates Literature Foundation Event

The Emirates Literature Foundation is bringing one of the UK’s brightest contemporary writers, Laura Barnett, author of The Versions of Us and Greatest Hits, to Dubai to discuss her acclaimed novels. The evening is part of the Emirates Literature Foundation’s year-round programme of literary events and will take place on Tuesday 15 October at 7pm at the Creative Space, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dubai Festival City. Tickets cost AED 35.

Laura published her first novel The Versions of Us in 2015. It was a number-one bestseller, a Richard and Judy’s Book Club winner, a Waterstones Fiction Book of the Month, and has been optioned for television by Trademark Films. Her second novel, Greatest Hits, was published in 2017 and hailed by Stylist as a “mesmerising ballad of a book”; Laura worked with Mercury-nominated singer-songwriter Kathryn Williams to bring the songs from the book to life as the album Songs from the Novel Greatest Hits. She is working on her third novel.

Laura, who teaches for the writing school of major UK literary agency Curtis Brown in London and at Manchester Metropolitan University, will also deliver two creative writing courses in association with Curtis Brown Creative and the Emirates Literature Foundation while she is in Dubai.  This is the first time that Curtis Brown Creative courses have been held in the region. The three-day course for beginners (11-13 October) will help emerging writers unlock their creativity. The advanced writing course (17-19 October) is for those already working on a novel or short story but would like some expert help to develop it.

Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation said: “It is a great pleasure to have Laura in Dubai as part of the Foundation’s year-round programme of events.  Her books have topped many bestseller lists, so it should be a fascinating evening for those who enjoy reading contemporary fiction as well as being a great inspiration for the writing community here. Laura’s visit is the first of what we will hope will be an ongoing collaboration with Curtis Brown Creative, who have a fantastic track record in discovering new authors, and of course is aligned with one of the most illustrious literary agencies in the world.”
