AXA Provides Free Screenings To People In Dubai, As Part Of Hypertension Awareness Campaign

AXA, one of the largest international players in the GCC and the no. 1 global insurance brand for the 10th consecutive year*, provided free screenings to people in Dubai – UAE, as a part of the company’s active participation in the hypertension awareness during the ‘May Measurement Month’ (MMM). The screenings were conducted at an event held at Human Resources Authority, and drew attendance from UAE government delegates.

MMM is an initiative led by the International Society of Hypertension (ISH), endorsed by the World Hypertension League (WHL), and is dedicated to raising awareness about hypertension as well as the risks of high blood pressure, which is the number one cause of preventable death worldwide, due to complications including heart disease, organ failure, and others.

While detection is relatively straightforward, cost-effective and takes only a few minutes to assess through measuring Blood Pressure levels, it has been widely acknowledged that greater public access to screenings can help to improve general public awareness and provide effective treatment in time to control hypertension. As a result, the May Measurement Month initiative has expanded into a global synchronised screening campaign, which has reached over 2.7 million people since it began and helped to identify over half a million people with uncontrolled hypertension.

Speaking about AXA’s participation, Dr. Sherif Mahmoud, Head of Employee Benefits Services and Retention at AXA in the Gulf, said: “We are proud to participate in the May Measurement Month awareness campaign led by the IHS and under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and Prevention. Through these screenings, we hope to improve people’s awareness around this harmful disease, help to avert them from any risks, and empower them to live better and healthier lives, all of which is designed as part of our continued commitment to move from payer to partner.

“Hypertension is a ‘silent killer’ and its impact should not be taken lightly. The fact that over 100 countries have participated in this initiative, demonstrates the significance of raising greater awareness around this issue and its prevention. Focusing on early detection is key to tackling this, as well as making important and healthier lifestyle changes,” he added.

During the AXA event, participants undertook tests that included blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI. Participants were also provided with their results and were recommended lifestyle changes to improve their overall health.
