The King Of Satire, Bassem Youssef, To Explore The Art Form As A Force For Civic Courage And Cultural Reflection At BRIDGE Summit 2025

BRIDGE Summit 2025, the world’s largest debut media event, will welcome Bassem Youssef — one of the Arab world’s most influential satirists and cultural commentators — for a major keynote session on December 10, 2025.

Youssef will lead a session titled “A Decade of Satire: Did It Work?” on the Forum Stage —  will examine how humor, influence, and public discourse intersect within today’s global content economy.

The talk will explore how satire has functioned over the past decade as a tool for civic courage, truth-telling, and cultural reflection. He will revisit the shifts satire managed to spark, the moments it challenged power, and the limits it encountered within an evolving media landscape.

Often described as the Jon Stewart of the Arab World, Bassem Youssef is a pioneering political satirist and the former host of AlBernameg, the Middle East’s first and most impactful political satire program. What began as a five-minute YouTube experiment quickly evolved into a region-defining television phenomenon, attracting more than 30 million viewers every week and reshaping public discourse across the Arab world.

Youssef’s fearless, incisive style earned him widespread global recognition. He was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and received the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists. His international profile expanded further through appearances on The Daily Show, a fellowship at Harvard’s Institute of Politics, his hosting of the International Emmy Awards, the acclaimed documentary Tickling Giants, his digital series The Democracy Handbook, and his book Revolution for Dummies.

Before becoming one of the Arab world’s most recognizable satirical voices, Youssef practiced as a cardiothoracic surgeon for 13 years and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons — a journey that remains one of the most remarkable transformations in contemporary media.

Taking place from December 8 to 10, BRIDGE Summit 2025 is the world’s largest debut media gathering of leaders in media, cultural, and creative industries, policymakers, and other industry stakeholders. Set within the region’s largest venue, spanning over 1.65 million square feet across six zones, within seven content tracks, the event is expected to attract more than 60,000 participants. The summit will feature over 400 international speakers and 300 exhibitors, forming the largest collective marketplace for media, content, and entertainment worldwide. Across three days, BRIDGE Summit will host more than 300 specialised activities, including 200 panel discussions and talks, 50 workshops, and interactive sessions, designed to foster cross-sector collaboration.
