The Middle East Council of Shopping Centres hosts the largest retail conference in the region; themed \u201cFuture Proof Retail\u201d <\/strong>in line with the shopping centre and retail industry which are continuously changing and evolving, driven by a new, dynamic, global transformation providing service, connectivity and convenience for customers. The Conference began on 28th<\/sup> of October with preconference workshops, launch of Souks to Malls.<\/p>\n

The 29th<\/sup> of October, the official first day of the conference began with a welcome note and opening of the conference by MECSC\u2019s CEO David Macadam<\/strong>, along with Master of Ceremonies Rania Ali<\/strong> along with a welcome address by Younus A Mulla<\/strong> – Chairman, MECSC & Marwan Eskandarani <\/strong>– Board President, MECSC.<\/p>\n

The first keynote address of the day was by David Meerman Scott, <\/strong>Based in Boston, David is no stranger to the international speaker\u2019s world having spoken in more than 40 countries. The acknowledged global expert in online marketing strategy, The New Rules of Marketing and PR, 5th Edition is his latest bestselling book. The day progressed to a panel discussion on \u201cHow to Make Cinema in the Shopping Centres Regionally Work?\u201d <\/strong><\/em>the panelists included Cameron Mitchell<\/strong> – VOX Cinemas; John Davis<\/strong> – Colliers International; Mazen Qandeel<\/strong> – Granada Center & Ashish Shukla<\/strong> \u2013 Cinepolis; the session was moderated by VIC Bageria <\/strong>– Xpandretail powered by S\u00e1vant Data System.<\/p>\n

The enigmatic Cornell Thomas,<\/strong> an International speaker, author, leadership coach, entrepreneur, Population Unplugged podcast host, Renzo Gracie blackbelt and a Ted X Speaker, made the second keynote address. The Panel discussion that followed was on \u201cFuture Proof Marketing\u201d <\/strong><\/em>the panelists included Alex Andarakis<\/strong> – Andarakis Group; Nada Abou Saab <\/strong>– Majid Al Futtaim Properties; Stacy Mackler<\/strong> – LifeOnScreen USA, the session was moderated by David Meerman Scott<\/strong>. The afternoon progressed with a much needed panel discussion on \u201cEnvironmental Mall Benchmarking Project. Why all Shopping Centres should be part of this project\u201d <\/strong><\/em>the panelists included Sandrine Le Biavant<\/strong> \u2013 Farnek, Abdulla Al Wahedi<\/strong> – Emaar Properties & Faisal Ali Rashid<\/strong> – Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the session was moderated by David Macadam<\/strong> \u2013 CEO MECSC.<\/p>\n

The concluding panel discussion for the day took place on \u201cWhat makes F&B sustainable in the retail environments of the MENA region shopping experience?\u201d<\/strong><\/em> the panelists included Michael Hirschfield<\/strong> – Vice Chairman of National Retail Tenant Services JLL, Paul Firth<\/strong> \u2013 RTKL, Anoop Gopal <\/strong>– Americana & Daniel Parry<\/strong> – MD for Gulf Related; the session was moderated by Alexis Marcoux-Varvatsoulis<\/strong>\u00a0 – Foodservice Consulting MENA, JLL.<\/p>\n
