At the Siemens stand in Zaabeel Hall, visitors will be able to interact with a range of technologies, including several in the field of renewable energy. These will include hydrogen generation and storage and photovoltaic solar power.

The stand will also demonstrate Siemens smart grid and digital substation solutions as examples of technologies that use digitalization to deliver efficiencies to the energy value chain. Utility and industrial customers can see how Siemens digital solutions help minimize operating and capital expenses in areas such as fuel consumption and electricity system loss, and control capital expenses by maximizing the capabilities of existing generation and distribution infrastructure.

As a partner to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and a contributor to the UAE’s ongoing efforts to build a sustainable future, Siemens experts are leading two technical seminars at WETEX. Kuldeep Tickoo, Executive Vice President of Digital Grid at Siemens Middle East, is presenting a talk, entitled “Connecting Digital Substations to the Internet of Energy,” in which he will discuss the benefits of smart substations in the context of a broader smart grid.

Digitalized substations collect valuable data from the entire power grid. This means they can be operated much more cost-effectively over their life cycle – from planning and operation to service. A digitalized substation also increases the availability, reliability, and sustainability of the entire power supply. That’s how it provides added value that’s relevant for utility companies and grid operators.

Ulrich Rueth, Director of Product and Portfolio Management for Siemens Hydrogen Solutions, is presenting on, “PEM Electrolysis – a Game-Changing Technology On Its Way to Large-Scale Industrialization.” He will discuss the process of producing hydrogen using polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), a technology Siemens is developing with DEWA at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. In February, Siemens signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DEWA and Expo 2020 Dubai to kick-off a pilot project for the region’s first solar-driven hydrogen electrolysis facility at DEWA’s outdoor testing facilities at the Solar Park.

“The UAE represents one of the world’s most ambitious and forward-looking markets for digitalization in the utility and industrial sector. During WETEX, we are pleased to present solutions that are supporting the sustainable development of an agile and versatile energy and power management infrastructure in the country,” said Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens in the Middle East and UAE. “We are sharing our innovations in power, renewable energy, green hydrogen and digitalization solutions as a partner to the UAE’s ongoing development of a happy, sustainable and pioneering economy and society.”

Siemens turbines account for 40 percent of the UAE’s power generation capacity. In Dubai, Siemens has been supplying the emirate with energy-efficient power solutions since 1992, including technology for the protection and automation of its power infrastructure for the digital age. Globally, Siemens has committed to becoming the world’s first major industrial company to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2030.

At the 20th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) in Dubai, to be held October 23-25, Siemens will showcase digital, renewable energy and power management solutions that are helping utilities and industrial companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) build a sustainable future.
