People want to hear stories about human experiences, not stories created by AI,” said Saud Boksmati, Chief Creative Officer at ForgeVision Technologies, during a panel discussion at the Sharjah Animation and Comics Conference (SACC 2026).

Speaking alongside Akil Wade, founder of AfricAI and mAIstro, and Aisha Binghalib, UAE Public Sector Manager at HP Inc., Boksmati said AI could support animation production, but human experience and creative judgement remained central to storytelling.

The session, titled AI Workflows That Don’t Harm Your Art, held on Sunday, examined how creators can use AI to expand what they make without surrendering artistic control or allowing core creative skills to erode.

Protecting human storytelling and artistic skills

Boksmati warned that excessive dependence on AI could gradually weaken the creative skills artists need to develop original work.

“The challenge for young creators is that we could eventually forget how to write a good script or what makes good art direction, just as calculators have made us less reliant on mental arithmetic,” he said.

Boksmati also noted that many studios remain cautious about incorporating AI into commercial production because of questions around copyright, provenance and documentation.

“Everybody is experimenting with AI, and people want to use it. But the question is, at what stage of production can we use it? When you use AI in production, you need to document every stage of the process, what was traditionally created, where human input was involved and what was produced by AI,” he said.

Bringing creative ideas to life

Akil Wade shared how he used AI to create an animated project for his two-year-old son, despite having no formal background in animation.

“I definitely think it gives more people the ability to create. Someone who isn’t as well-versed in animation or doesn’t have the budget can now bring their creativity to life. I wasn’t able to express myself this way before, but AI has given me the ability to create something I had imagined,” Wade said.

Concerned about the children’s programmes available online, Wade used AI to create educational animation for his son. He spent approximately eight hours producing an initial two-minute segment, including scripting, before developing a 15-minute episode and a workflow for future installments.

He said: “The idea came from my son. He’s two years old and has started watching television. I wanted to create something he could watch and learn from. I don’t have a background in animation, but I was able to bring that idea to life using AI.”

Education and responsible AI use

Educating younger generations about the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence is essential to encouraging its responsible use, according to Aisha Binghalib.

“AI is not here to take away your job or what you do as an artist, a creator or a producer. It’s here to make your life easier, enhance your work and be used as a tool. The more educated and aware we are about it, the more responsibly we can use it,” Binghalib said.

Recalling a recent visit by school students to HP’s offices, Binghalib said she was encouraged by their cautious approach to AI and their interest in understanding how to use it responsibly.

“What gave me hope was seeing that the next generation is very cautious about AI and technology in general. They want to use it responsibly. I think the main message is that we need to understand these tools, recognise their risks and learn how to use them responsibly,” she said.

She compared AI to everyday technologies such as smartphones, noting that both offer practical benefits while carrying risks that users need to understand.

“Human beings are storytellers.
