Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority\u00a0(SMA),took part\u00a0in\u00a0a panel discussion at the\u00a0Global Cultural District Network\u00a0(GCDN)\u00a0conference\u00a0on efforts\u00a0to\u00a0preserve and promote art, culture and history\u00a0across the\u00a0UAE.<\/p>\n

The two day conference chaired by Adrian Ellis \u00a0was held on Tuesday at\u00a0Alserkal\u00a0Avenue in Dubai, the Director General spoke about the various projects being\u00a0led\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0Sharjah\u00a0Museums\u00a0Authority\u00a0to continue to develop the emirate’s\u00a0position\u00a0as a\u00a0major\u00a0destination for\u00a0heritage and\u00a0culture.<\/p>\n

Joining\u00a0the Director General\u00a0on the panel, moderated by Antonia Carver, were\u00a0H.E. Dr.\u00a0Zaki\u00a0Nusseibeh, Minister of State, UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs,\u00a0Vilma\u00a0Jurkute, Director,Alserkal\u00a0Avenue and Manuel\u00a0Rabat\u00e9, Director, Louvre Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n

Addressing the panel and the audience\u00a0of GCDN members,\u00a0Ms\u00a0Ataya spoke at length about\u00a0Sharjah’s\u00a0Heart\u00a0of Sharjah cultural district\u00a0and the 8 museums managed by SMA in the area. \u00a0 Furthermore she announced he recently reopened Bait Al Naboodah museum in the Heart of Sharjah by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. \u00a0 The Heart of Sharjah expansion project to be completed in 2025 is being overseen by\u00a0Shurooq Investment and Development Authority whose responsibilities include facilitating the social, cultural, environmental and economic development of\u00a0Sharjah.<\/p>\n

International members of the\u00a0GCDN\u00a0are scheduled to visit Sharjah on Wednesday to take part in a guided tour of the\u00a0Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization,\u00a0and\u00a0Bait Al\u00a0Naboodah.<\/p>\n

The GCDN\u00a0a network of global centers of arts and culture. It was established to foster cooperation and knowledge-sharing among entities responsible for conceiving, funding, creating and operating cultural and creative districts around\u00a0the\u00a0world.<\/p>\n
