Be careful while sharing data, says Google\u2019s Carlo Biondo<\/p>\n

Data is the \u2018new oil\u2019 and the currency for the future and the media should be careful while sharing it,\u201d said Carlo Biondo, President, EMEA Strategic Partnerships, Google.<\/p>\n

Addressing the audience on the first day of the 17th edition of the Arab Media Forum in Dubai on the topic \u2018Building a Stronger Future for News\u2019, he said privacy is important and the media needs to protect the privacy of people on platforms and the press has a major role to play in this regard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to be very careful while sharing data. At Google, sharing data with the press is the best thing that we can do to make the press successful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to understand together what we can do to make the press more successful on the web. In order to achieve that, we have created the Global News Initiative (GNI). We have to identify a company here who can participate in this initiative and help us understand the Middle East better. We will be working on it soon, but we need the inputs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe plan to train 4,000 journalists from this region by the end of 2019. The training will be technology based and the purpose is to train the journalists to let them know how technology works. Some of them are web experts and some of them need to understand how technology can impact the way they can actually express themselves. The second element is about training the journalists about the economic aspects to understand the business models. The third one is connected to the future, and is focused on how new technology can be used to understand the world better.\u201d<\/p>\n

GNI, an effort to help journalism thrive in the digital age, signifies a major milestone in Google\u2019s 15-year commitment to the news industry, and will bring together everything Google does in collaboration with the industry \u2014 across products, partnerships, and programs\u2014to help build a stronger future for news.<\/p>\n

Held under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, from 3-4 April 2018, the 17th<\/sup> edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) has brought together more than 3,000 prominent regional and international media figures and thought leaders.<\/p>\n

Apart from high-profile local speakers, the two-day event features 50 speakers representing 20 countries from across the Arab region and the world. Under the theme \u2018Impactful Media Trends\u2019 prominent media personalities, writers, influencers and academics are sharing their views on diverse issues at the Forum with the aim of forging a new vision for the media.<\/p>\n
