The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in the Department of Economic Development (DED), Dubai, has launched a \u2018Commercial Compliance Package\u2019 to educate new business owners in the emirate. The initiative includes a series of official visits to major markets in Dubai and meetings with new business licence holders to brief them on DED\u2019s requirements and standards for doing business.<\/p>\n

The package is part of DED\u2019s commitment to building trust among the various business sectors and reinforcing Dubai\u2019s prestige as a business destination.<\/p>\n

Every week the CCCP team conducts at least 150 field visits to new business owners, presenting to them DED\u2019s requirements for doing business and consumer rights compliance, as well as the most common violations and the right way to avoid penalties.<\/p>\n

Ahmad Al Awadhi, Head of Business Protection at DED, said: “The field visits focus primarily on strengthening the principle of partnership with the private sector and guiding traders across various sectors towards continuous development and excellence in service delivery. It helps to raise awareness among traders, and strengthen their relationship with consumers, which eventually strengthens transparency and neutrality through minimising violations and abuses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Al Awadhi said the retail sector being one of the major drivers of business in Dubai, strategic commercial compliance and consumer protection initiatives are critical to ensuring that businesses in Dubai follow highest standards, and that the problems they face are resolved smoothly.<\/p>\n

Businesses in Dubai has responded positively to the new package, Al Awadhi said, adding that \u00a0such interactions are bringing decision-makers from the government and private sector closer by facilitating access to information and finding solutions to problems faced by businesses.<\/p>\n

Al Awadhi added: “There are traders who are confused on various aspects of doing business, such as the importance of obtaining commercial approvals and permits for advertising, discounts and promotions, and policies on warranties, exchange and refunds. The field visits help solve many such issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
