{"id":22475,"date":"2020-06-24T11:27:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T07:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.middleeastevents.com\/blog\/?p=22475"},"modified":"2020-06-24T11:27:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T07:27:00","slug":"reporting-the-stories-in-changed-strange-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.middleeastevents.com\/blog\/reporting-the-stories-in-changed-strange-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Reporting The Stories In Changed, Strange Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The changing face of journalism will be the subject under discussion with\u00a0<strong>Christina Lamb<\/strong>, award winning journalist from The Sunday Times and Emirati political commentator <strong>Sultan Al Qassemi<\/strong> on Thursday 2 July 2020 at \u00a019:30 UAE.<\/p>\n<p>The debate is the latest event in the Literary Conversations Across Borders series which uses a digital platform to host Emirati writers and commentators in live discussions with high profile experts from around the world on a variety of critical topics.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers will consider how news reporting has changed in the last ten years, in particular the impact of twitter and the spread of fake news.\u00a0<strong>Christina Lamb<\/strong> has been Foreign Correspondent of the Year five times and recently named\u00a0Sue Lloyd Roberts Journalist of the Year for \u2018outstanding reporting on refugee issues\u2019 for her reports on Boko Haram and the\u00a0Chibok Girls. Her book,\u00a0<em>Nujeen<\/em>, was co-written with inspirational young refugee Nujeen Mustafa and\u00a0<em>I Am Malala<\/em>, co-authored with Malala Yousafzai. <strong>Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi<\/strong>\u00a0is an Emirati columnist and researcher on social, political and cultural affairs in the Arab Gulf States. His tweets became a major news source during the Arab Spring, rivalling the major news networks at the time, and in 2018 Sultan ranked 19th on the \u201cArabic Thought Leader Index\u201d by the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural event of Literary Conversations Across Borders saw more than\u00a03,500\u00a0people from 46 countries\u00a0register and\u00a0able to\u00a0tune in to the live event with Indian politician <strong>Shashi Tharoor<\/strong> and His Excellency <strong>ZakiNusseibeh<\/strong> Minister of State: Office of\u00a0 Public and Cultural Diplomacy, in a debate on how the events of 2020 will change the course of history.<\/p>\n<p>Other sessions included <strong>H.E. Omar Ghobash<\/strong>and journalist <strong>Lesley Hazleton<\/strong> as they debated the impact of the pandemic on faith and belief systems, and celebrated environmentalist <strong>Dr. Jane Goodall<\/strong> and <strong>H. E.Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mheiri<\/strong>Minister of State for Food Security on how the pandemic might influence global food supply challenges and the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Literary Conversations Across Borders\u2019 project is a new initiative to promote international cultural understanding through the power of books and words launched by the UAE Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy and the Emirates Literature Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>There will be eight sessions in this first Literary Conversations Across Borders series.
