    Dubai , UAE - October 22, 2009

The Dubai School of Government (DSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) to establish and support education and technical cooperation in public administration.

Affiliated with the Arab League, ARADO is mandated to promote administrative development in the Arab region. Its objective stems from a joint Arab economic strategy to enhance socio-economic development through enriching management knowledge and practices and increasing the efficiency of administration in various development sectors across the Arab world.

According to the agreement, the two organizations will exchange expertise and capabilities throughout a variety of disciplines. Another integral component of the MoU is the organization of training sessions, seminars and educational conferences, and consultancy studies on topics of common interest.

The agreement further stipulates the exchange of information, studies, reports and research on public administration, in addition to technical publications such as magazines and journals. Additionally, it implies that DSG and ARADO will adopt an action plan for joint projects and activities.

Paving the way for future cooperation on projects that involve students from the Dubai School of Government, the MoU will form the basis of a networking platform where educational tools and information available to both organizations in public administration can be exchanged, and employees from DSG and ARADO can participate in each other’s tailor-made programs.

Dr. Rifaat Abdel-Halim Faouri, Director-General of the Arab Administrative Development Organization, said: “I have great esteem for the important role DSG plays in the area of public policy, not only on the UAE level, but also on an Arab level.” He emphasized the common vision and goals DSG shares with ARADO, which paved the way to the signing of this MoU, calling it “the first step in a successful and fruitful cooperation between the two parties.”

Dr. Faouri extended an invitation to DSG Dean Tarik Yousef, as well to as a number of DSG representatives and researchers, to visit ARADO’s headquarters in Cairo for the enactment of the MoU and to present an overview of ARADO’s activities and projects.

Dr. Tarik Yousef, Dean of DSG, said: "This MoU with the Arab Administrative Development Organization is part of our commitment to coordinate with local, regional and international organizations in providing a unique academic offering. It is an excellent opportunity for those who seek a high level of proficiency and academic excellence. Students will be able to develop their capabilities and skills amid an exclusive environment that is defined by diverse activities and studies.

"ARADO is a pioneering institution with a successful track record in developing public administration in the Arab region and in organizing training courses, seminars and conferences and consultancy studies on administrative issues. By joining hands with such an established organization, we believe we can positively impact the community at large.”

Established in 2005 in cooperation with the Harvard Kennedy School, the Dubai School of Government aims to promote good governance through enhancing the region’s capacity for effective public policy. It also collaborates with regional and global institutions in delivering its research and training programs, besides organizing policy forums and international conferences to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote critical debate on public policy in the Arab world.
