The Dubai School of Government (DSG) has joined forces with Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) as knowledge partner for The First Arab Women Leadership Forum, set to be held from January 13-14, 2009, at the Monarch Hotel in Dubai.
Themed “Women and Leadership: Global Trends and Local Innovations,” the event will be organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and led by H.H Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of H.H Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.
According to Maitha Al-Shamsi, Managing Director of DWE, ”The First Arab Women Leadership Forum is the first in a series of annual leadership international forums which will be organized by Dubai Women Establishment under their mandate to enhance the contribution of working women in the economic and social development of the UAE. It also pursues a holistic objective of DWE to ensure Emirati women play a key role not only on the local arena but also throughout the Gulf region”.
Therefore, DWE annual forum is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of outstanding individuals and organizations that have contributed to advancing women’s leadership worldwide.
Al-Shamsi stated that “Having the Dubai School of Government as our knowledge partner is a vital factor for the success of this pioneering conference on women’s leadership, as we believe that the experience and expertise of the School, especially their Gender and Public Policy Program, will give us the opportunity to learn from leading women who are paving our road to success.”
Dr. May Al Dabbagh, Director of the Gender and Public Policy Program at DSG, commented on the relationship between the two institutions by saying: “We at the Dubai School of Government are proud of our partnership with the Dubai Women Establishment for their first forum. We are also looking forward to potential future collaborations which will result in knowledge production and policy change in issues related to women.”
Dr. Al Dabbagh explained that “The Gender and Public Policy Program at the Dubai School of Government aims to contribute to the academic scholarship on gender and public policy in the Arab world, while simultaneously incorporating gender perspectives in the training and education of leaders taught at the School.
