Dubai
, UAE - October 28, 2007:
Dubai Logistics City (DLC), part of the world’s first truly integrated multi-modal logistics platform, currently under development at Jebel Ali in the UAE, will be leading an impressive line up of case studies at SCM Logistics Middle East 2007 - the region’s definitive conference for supply chain professionals in the manufacturing industry at the Shangri-la Hotel, Dubai on 29 and 30 October.
The world’s top supply chain management experts will hear how Dubai has transformed itself into a leading global commerce and logistics hub through DLC’s development within Dubai World Central (DWC) – the 140 square kilometre urban aviation community rising up from Dubai’s desert.
Michael Proffitt, CEO, DLC will be presenting a keynote address on ‘Positioning the Middle East as the global logistics hub of choice’ where he will address issues like establishing a resource and infrastructure framework to support global supply chain expansion and the financing and development of Dubai Logistics City.
Another key topic to be discussed by Proffitt is investment in the Middle East through opportunities to cash in on higher disposable incomes. “A wide cross-section of industries will be represented at SCM Logistics – sectors that will highly benefit from the DLC proposition due to its unique multi-modal approach,” explained Proffitt.
With over 150 companies having reserved land at DLC, the project is on schedule to be fully operational by mid-2009.
“As the supply chain grows longer due to new markets for manufacturing which are far away from the consumer markets, Dubai is positioning itself as the gateway for a varied range of businesses,” commented Proffitt.
“Be it food & beverage, retail, FMCG, chemicals, pharmaceutical manufacturers, ports and terminals operators, outsourcing service providers, packaging and storage service providers, warehousing facilities, air, ocean and road transportation service providers, supply chain solution providers, inventory management solution providers, material handling solution providers, trade finance and even consultants – all will agree that Dubai is the perfect hub to be based in.”
DLC is the Platinum Sponsor of SCM Logistics Middle East and is taking a group of select delegates on a DLC site tour to raise awareness about the project.
“We hope the delegates can take back with them a unique experience of having witnessed history in the making as the first runway at Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) – adjacent to DLC - nears completion,” stated Abdulla Al Falasi, DWC’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Director. “JXB will be the first airport in the world with cargo freight as its primary focus of initial operations.”
Dubai World Central, covering a total of 140 square kilometres, will support Dubai’s, as well as the region’s commercial, tourism and logistics requirements until 2050.
