HE Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of The Dubai’s Supreme Council of Energy (SCE) has arrived in London as the head of a delegation formed by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the SCE. His Excellency was invited by The UK Ministry of Energy and Climate Change to visit Britain to discuss issues of mutual interest, including partnerships between both private and public sectors in the field of energy.
The delegation comprises Ali bin Abdullah Al Oweis, Chairman of the Dubai Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau for Water and Electricity, Nejib Zaafrani, Secretary General and CEO of the SCE, Waleed Salman, member of the SCE. The visit will include meetings with several British departments and officials, including the UK Ministry of Energy and Climate Change, the Mayor of the City of London, the Infrastructure Department of the Ministry of Finance, and representatives from major British companies.
This visit is part of the strategic plan of the Government of Dubai for 2015; aiming to promote sustainable economic development, and establish top-level relationships and partnerships with the private sector. The visit also supports the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which focuses the key issue of sustainability. The two sides will also tackle the benefits of partnerships between both the private and public sectors by integrating standards of designing and constructing infrastructures on one hand and finance, administration and updating on the other hand. A main topic of discussion will be the Hassyan power generation project, the first of its kind to involve the private sector that has drawn the attention of key developers and investors from around the world.
“This visit aims to share views and expertise, in addition to promoting the latest developments and best practices in the field of collaboration and integration between both the private and public sectors. This will definitely help establish the basis for collaboration, world performance indicators and high-level benchmarks, which are expected to promote investments in the field of energy in the region. The visit also aims to foster coordination and collaboration with governmental organizations on financial matters and so forth, with the purpose of learning about British best practices and expertise,” said Al Tayer.
His Excellency stressed the importance of mutual collaboration between the UK and Dubai and highlighted the necessity of establishing long-term partnerships in the related-energy fields; as well as developing them into broader horizons. The visit aims also to promote these initiatives and partnerships in environmental projects, and benefits from opportunities provided by Dubai in the field of investments in eco-friendly projects.
“The SCE pays great attention to partnerships between the private and public sectors so to achieve our objectives to support innovation and diversification in our work. These partnerships will obviously be mutually beneficial, as they will make the best use of public assets, creating new job opportunities in the private sector, as well as attracting investments and state-of-the-art technologies,” added Al Tayer.
The Dubai’s Supreme Council of Energy seeks to establish and create new fields of investment, encourage private sector to participate in strategic projects, and set up a business model based on competitiveness through using most up-to-date technologies so as to provide the future needs of energy in the Emirate of Dubai, while observing environmental aspects through a solid infrastructure of energy.
