GEMS Education has partnered with iD Tech, the number one tech camp and a leader in STEM education in the United States, to bring technology camps to Dubai this summer.
iD Tech has over 150 locations in the US including Stanford, Harvard, Princeton and NYU and has had over 300,000 students pass through its camps since 1999. Now students in Dubai will receive the same world-class instruction from top-notch staff, at GEMS Nations Academy, while working to create an impressive project and build skills for college and beyond. With 1-on-1 teaching provided by tech-savvy staff, only eight students per instructor, and each student working on their own laptop, iD Tech delivers the academic rigor and hands-on experience that students need to build a competitive advantage for their future.
GEMS Nations Academy stays ahead of the curve in innovation. Their facilities are of bold and creative design, with inspiring interior spaces housing technology-rich learning environments. The campus goes beyond state-of-the-art and provides a stimulating environment for students to be immersed in coding, robotics, and extend their digital fluency skillsets. The approach at Nations is about transforming learning and ensuring that students are future-ready, adaptable, and forward-thinking learners. GEMS has a clear and unique innovation strategy that recognizes the importance of students being prepared to be the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders capable of challenging, influencing and sustaining the world of the future.
Mick Gernon, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Innovation, Research and Development, GEMS Education, is spearheading the strategy. “Our partnership with iD Tech will be groundbreaking. Having seen the camps in operation and understanding their unique approaches to advanced teaching and learning in key STEM areas, this is a tremendous opportunity to bring the very best from the US and further develop it within GEMS schools,” says Gernon.
“Whilst there are a plethora of STEM providers, iD Tech represents the pinnacle and provides world-class approaches to coding, game design and robotics. We are delighted to partner with them and bring forward a genuinely innovative camp programme and studio labs based at Nations Academy.”
“We are so excited to be working with GEMS Education to bring almost two decades of technology education experience and the spirit of Silicon Valley to Dubai,” says Joy Meserve, Chief Program Officer of iD Tech. “While visiting GEMS schools, I got to spend some time getting to know a number of students. Seeing their enthusiasm for technology and passion for learning, I knew iD Tech would be well received by students across the UAE.”
A variety of one-week programs will be offered to GEMS and non-GEMS students over an 8 week period beginning 2nd July at GEMS Nations Academy. Registration is now open and students are welcome to enrol in multiple courses throughout the summer. The courses for kids and teens include Java and C++ coding, LEGO and VEX robotics, in addition to engineering and game design courses.
The courses can be booked on idtech.com/dubai or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to summer camps, iD Tech will also be establishing a year-round lab space inside GEMS Nations Academy. “Think creative makerspace meets Apple store,” says Pete Ingram-Cauchi, CEO of iD Tech. “This flexible learning environment will encourage exploration, collaboration, and experiential learning. I can’t wait to see GEMS Nations Academy students get their hands on the latest tech in virtual reality, VEX robotics, and so much more.”
This is just the beginning of the partnership between iD Tech and GEMS Education, and they will be looking to expand to additional campuses across the Middle East and Asia.
